Windows 8 registry shows nine separate flavors to choose from

With each subsequent release of Windows we're left bracing for what will surely be another overwhelming assortment of retail packaging options. With Windows 7 there was a dizzying 6 SKUs to choose from, and we're sorry to say that, at least for now, there are even more coming with Windows 8. As noted by windows 8 beta the registry contains the keys for all current versions of the OS and, with a quick trip to Regedit we were able to verify with the screenshot above. That boils down to the following list:

• Windows 8 Starter
• Windows 8 Home Basic
• Windows 8 Home Premium
• Windows 8 Professional
• Windows 8 Professional Plus
• Windows 8 Enterprise
• Windows 8 Enterprise Eval
• Windows 8 Ultimate
• Windows 8 ARM edition

We will of course point out that this is from the Consumer Preview, so not necessarily a final tally, and the Enterprise Eval version is of course just for trials, but it's interesting to note the addition of Professional Plus. Office 2010 Pro Plus adds in extra integration with Sharepoint and Office Communications Server, leaving us to wonder if this flavor of Windows 8 won't offer some similar collaborative tools. And then there's just that one, lonely ARM edition, which could leave non-x86 hardware buyers out of the cross-shopping fun altogether.

Life with my BOYS: Welcome Spring Preschool Projects (and Perky ...

Okay, I know it isn't officially spring yet.

BUT

It was almost 70 here yesterday - it was incredible outside.

We are ready for it to decide it's time to stay.

This morning we had some unexpected "spare" time, so we set off to welcoming spring by preparing for our bird friends to return from their vacation in the south!

Here are the supplies for project #1. ?Perky Pets Squirrel-Be-Gone II, birdseed, yarn, scissors, pine cones, and shortening. ?Read below for my review of this amazing bird feeder!?

We started with butter knives - the boys think butter knives are incredibly cool and want to use them as often as I'll allow. ?This seemed like a good project for practicing spreading with a knife. ?

Mama tied yarn around each pine cone and let the boys lather them in palm shortening. ?Mama helped - the benefits of shortening over the traditional peanut butter? ?We don't have problems with palm allergies - also, when your hands get messy with palm shortening, you can rub them on the rough areas of your body and use them as a natural softener.

6 pine cones, all gooped up and ready for seed.

We dipped the pine cones into the seeds, the boys covered them by hand.

This gem is ready to hang for the birds!

Finally the big event: Filling our newest bird feeder. ?

Here's the thing about this feeder. ?When I picked it out, I thought it would make a nice gift for someone. ?I was excited about sharing how it had blessed someone and the fun my boys had wrapping it and giving it away. ?But when I opened it, well.. I fell in love with it. ?Mr. Crum agreed with me that it is really cool, we love the way it looks. ?It's so sturdy, the weather vane locks into place. ?It has room for a ton of seed ?so we won't have to fill it every day. ? We kept it. ?I still feel kind of guilty that we didn't give it away. ?Maybe next time.

Location: 50 East 168th Street, Bronx, NY 10452 Reports to: VP Finance / CFO

Job Summary: The Director of Facilities and Operations will be responsible for the overall maintenance and operation of WHEDco's two affordable housing community developments, and maintenance and upkeep of the office space from which the nonprofit conducts its daily operations. S/he will oversee third party property management staff with regard to all facilities and/or safety issues, as well as manage the purchase and/or maintenance of non-IT office equipment, supplies and furnishings. S/he will also oversee collection of tenant rents and monitor building vendor relationships.

Responsibilities:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

?Under the direction of executive management, oversee the coordination of WHEDco office and tenant space allocation and layout, staff moves and/or relocations. ?Oversee and collaborate with third party property manager, and contribute to the planning for the maintenance, repairs and modifications of facilities. ?Coordinate with the property manager, building security and the superintendent on building safety issues. ?Participate in selection of building vendors and monitor building vendor relationships, including energy supply pricing and utility bill auditing services. ?Inspect space and facilities. Analyze buildings? systems, including but not limited to HVAC systems, ventilation, wiring and lighting. ?Conduct bidding processes for construction projects, and track progress of projects to ensure conformance to established specifications. ?Interface with building superintendent to ensure proper maintenance of building systems. ?Act as liaison to utility, environmental, energy, police, fire and other public agencies, as necessary. ?Monitor building violations such as DOB, HPD, Fire Department and ECB. ?Monitor tenant rent collection and provide monthly updates to executive management. Work with outside building manager to ensure timely rent collection, and troubleshoot issues related to tenant nonpayment and subsidy disruption.

Qualifications:
?4-year degree in a related field; Masters? level degree desirable ?Minimum of 7 years? related experience ?Demonstrated knowledge of the Multiple Dwelling Law, Housing Code and DOB compliance, construction trades and competitive procurement ?Experience with energy efficiency and/or high performance, multifamily buildings ?Experience working in affordable housing buildings with rental subsidies such as Section 8, and compliance requirements related to federal HOME funding and Low Income Housing Tax Credits ?Proven ability to effectively communicate with tenants, contractors, enforcement officials, lawyers, insurance agents, and upper management ?Demonstrated ability to amass and analyze data using Excel and Yardi ?Experience navigating and extracting data from DOB and HPD websites ?Proven ability and willingness to keep detailed logs and document issues ?Safety certification is desirable

People are always searching for stimulation in life: whether it is love, sex, friends, food, movies, travel or sports ? everything we do is for the purpose of feeling stimulated.

Even working at a dead end job is something we do for stimulation, not necessarily for the actual job, but for the pay check we get at the end of each month.

Some people would do anything for money, just like some would do anything for love.

One of my favorite artists Katie Melua once said that the only reason she did not go down the same road as similar artists like Amy Winehouse who took so many drugs that it eventually killed her, was because she turned towards extreme sports instead.

Sport gives us that adrenaline kick, that excitement, that feeling of being alive.

Skiing does just that for so many people, I read an interview in a ski magazine about a professional skier who talked about why he became such a good skier when he was not even brought up close to a ski field.

He told the ski magazine that the feeling he had when he was on the skis was addictive, skiing off piste and doing tricks made him feel alive for the simple reason that he was often close to death.

Sometimes we human beings love being close to death, playing with death ? for some of us it is the only way to appreciate life.

And in the end, I would rather people did extreme sports than taking drugs, one makes you push the boundaries of what is possible, inspire others to improve and outdo themselves ? the other makes you numb to any emotions.

I get the biggest kick out of traveling, I feel alive because I open my eyes and ears to take in new impressions.

When I do not travel, I tend to forget and stop appreciating my surroundings.
